The translation is animation, the actual english word from which it comes from. And that word doesn't convey any kind of drawing style, unlike the word cartoon. Misused by many to mean everything that is animated. That's playing with semantics, but you seem to want to keep this going.

Cartoon doesnt convey a specific drawing style, and even using your definition, western animation (cartoons) has far more variations in style than "anime"

But it's not like you're gonna convince me I'm wrong, and I cant convinve you either. I'm mainly just unable to see "anime=/=cartoons" without saying "ha ha, nope"

It's ok. I feel the same about what you post on VGC as a whole.

May be a culture thing. We make that distinction where I'm from. 

The way you use the word makes me think that everything that is animated, you'll call cartoons. Even stuff like the Final Fantasy movies (SW and AC)...
