Well first party exclusives set the standard and culture for what the main console makers primary types of development style is. With Sony and Nintendo its pretty easy to see where they stand when making games. Sony wants an action packed blockbuster approach with various genres involved and Nintendo likes the family friendly approach. Microsoft has no real identity yet, so hopefully they find it. Exclusives are exclusives but first party generally tells the story of a brands identity.

Haven't MS's style been pretty evident from the start? Their games are blockbuster, americanoriented games. Just look at Halo, Gears, Fable, Forza, PGR and so on. They have a distinct style, which they have stood by since Halo CEset the tone for their gaming department.

MS has no style they will buy or keep anything that sells. Fable, Fable and Crackdown are the only games they've actually made from scratch. MS bought Halo and Gears which both had their own distinct styles which represented Bungie and Epic. Neither of those games had any creative input by Microsoft.
