Of course. Smash bros!

I don't see why it would. Mario Kart is historically a better selling franchise.

Could you tell me what sold better on the GC?

Also, the Wii was a different beast. Historically, there has not been many Smash games.

Three smash games. Three mario kart games released around the same time.
Mario kart 64: 9.87 million

Super smash 64: 5.55 Million

Mario Kart GC: 6.95

Super Smash GC: 7.07

Mario Kart wii: 34.52 Milion

Super Smash Wii: 12.17  million

Yes I know the numbers. 2 out of 3 times, mario Kart has sold far better. Nearly doubling the first time, and nearly tripling  the sales the third. Melee sold .12 more than mario kart double dash. Which is a difference of 120,000 copies. That's a difference of 1.7%, which most would consider a nearly negligible amount. Of the three games combined. Mario kart has sold 51.34 million, and Super smash bros has sold 24.78 Million. So yes, I'd say that Mario kart has a higher chanc of making a greater difference than Super smash bros. Numbers are on my side. I'm not saying that's it's impossible that SSB will do better, I'm just saying that I think Mario Kart has a far higher chance of making the bigger difference given both of their histories.

Edit. I also forgot to mention the fact the SSB4 is being released on the 3ds as well, which is bound to take away a ton of steam from the wiiU version. Why would you go out and buy a wiiU when you can play the same game in the palm of your hands?
