The Wii U has a touch screen, which is basically incorporating the same tech that was introduced on the DS a decade ago (and touch screen tech is much older than that). What other "innovations" in game controls have been in the works for years or decades that are waiting to be the next method of input on consoles? If there is anything left to "innovate," then let such a gimmick controller be a secondary, optional controller, and have the primary gamepad be one with a conventional, standard design.

Touch controls on capactive multitouch screens. Practically unpioneered territory even though they are on billions of devices. Though that would be far better for their handheld and not a home console.
