It's not like that. There is more to Nintendo's failure during that era than games and controllers. Nintendo was curb-stomped by Sony during the PS2 era, there was little Nintendo could do about it. No amount of games could deter the visibility Sony was getting in the mainstream due to their own offerings. The PS/PS2 eras are exceptions against Nintendo's ability to sell on their own merits, because Sony enjoyed a wave of popularity it will never see again in the near future. Nintendo has proven their worth among giants in the handheld and now home console space when the PS brand faltered. It's a different time. Reevaluate 1 and 2 in light of these truths. |
Sony is repeating that success to an extent. The only way PS brand faltered last gen was due to PS3's pricing. Right now Sony has the right price to sell its PS4 at and its selling very well too, even with all of Sony's big guns yet to release on it.
Sony's games are immensely fun and offer variety the way Nintendo games don't. That is one of the reasons they sell.
