Crysis on PC was pirated relentlessly. This is gonna sound harsh, but PC gamers kinda brought the console-ization of the series on themselves, Crytek had to turn to PS3/360 make their money back.

When you include digital the console versions probably havent done that much better than the PC version. While they have more sales overall was the damage to the game/brand worth it? If Crysis 4 was announced tomorrow not many people would care, and thats sad.

Id expect 700,000+ sales on a PC exclusive game to be fairly profitable, again thats just retail. Steam and Origin must make the totals at least 200-600k higher.

Look at how Star Citizens backers lost their minds when they noticed a PS4 devkit it one of RSI's videos. Games targetting consoles tend to be designed differently compared to games targetting PCs, they also tend to play differently. Best example I can think of right now is Dragon Age Origins vs Dragon Age II, the first being very PC centric (and loved by the community) and the second console centric.

Making a mega-budget game for PC only is financial suicide, hell, devs go backrupt these days even with PC and consoles to draw on. You need every possible source of income to recoup those kind of ridiculously excessive expenditures.

The better solution would be to just spend a sensible amount of money on your game, instead of enough to buy a small country.
