I don't know. But for their next console, I'd like them to come in with a BANG with a shiny new 3D Mario beyond our imaginations.
Therefore, they can't make another 3D Mario until then, or else it won't make as big of an impression. Galaxy came around 5 years after Sunshine, and around 10 years after its true predecessor, SM64, and we can all wait 5 years for the next. If Nintendo comes with another 3D Mario inbetween, people will be like "Oh another 3D Mario, we had that 2 years ago..." instead of "WOW, a new 3D Mario! I can't remember when the last time was!" They have to let it wait a few years more.
Plus, I don't think a 3D Mario will "save" the Wii U as we're all clamoring for, sadly.
Don't read this reply as if I hate 3D Mario, I love them. Galaxy is my favourite game of all time, at least top three!
