When so many players die though, the game's clearly not a sustainable one. The AAA  business model is a fundamentally flawed one that stifles creativity and kills studios by requiring each game to make massive sales or sink its maker.

Well, i like to think it's a risk/reward kind of thing. You can risk a flop and bankruptcy or get a good franchise going on. 

I will agree companies focus to make the next CoD or next GTA and bank giant sales make for a rather dull selection of AAAs, but hey, we pretty much gave them the go when we kept buying CoD year after year after year, with minimal effort.
