It's more the mechanics within these specific games rather than the genre itself. They usually involve top down camera angles, swords with which to hammer enemies, worlds that involve lush forests and puzzle ridden temples. There's also usually a natural progression of strength, whether from leveling up from enemy encounters or receiving new weapons/items that makes the game considerably easier. I don't agree that these all remain within a single genre but I understand how he's trying to make a connection between them.

Thanks. Exactly my point. Cross out the one in the upper left and you even have a genre. Read on Wikipedia regarding Zelda / AA / Action RPG and you will realize it is all one genre. As stated, without CT.
