You are so right.

In one you beat the boss of the dungeon, then a chest appears and your health bar increases.

In the other you beat the boss of the dungeon, and get points for it, which makes your level go up and your health bar increases.

So much difference. And in one you walk around and hit stuff, and in the other you only walk around and hit stuff.

You clearly havent played any other RPG if you think thats all RPGs are all about - that is even more of a fact since you placed Chrono Trigger in the same light as The Legend of Zelda in terms of genre according to your OP post.

Also there is no health bar in the Seiken Densetsu series, Chrono Trigger or Terranigma. Your stats go up from leveling up despite whether you fight a boss or not.

I've killed bosses in Terranigma and didnt level up so your sarcastic logic fails on this one.

You also walk around and hit stuff in Super Mario games and GTA, I guess they are also RPGs.

You level up as you progress. If you do that by collecting points/money to get stronger/buy new stuff or by finding new gadgets /hearts on your way is rather irrelevant. Both times you grow stronger and enemies that used to be a threat become a nuissance.

If your health bar is an arbitrary number that reduces to zero vs. hearts that reduce to zero vs. apples that reduce to zero, vs. rupies that reduce to zero or a green line that reduces to zero - how on earth is that different? Of course there is a health bar in all those games.

And please dont make an assumption of the RPGs I have or have not played. I am very well aware of what is a classic RPG and what not. And clearly all the games I mentioned are not RPGs. Except of course CT, which is an obvious RPG.
