Anything Nintendo does is pretty much unavoidably defined as a gimmick, so yes, it will.
"This console supports glasses-free 3D if you want, or you can ignore it." -- omg so gimmicky I don't wanna pay for that
"WE PUT A TOUCHSCREEN ON THE BACK." -- nope no gimmicks here Sony is teh hardcore
"Now there's a screen on the controller so you can play your console games while someone else uses the tv." -- casual gimmicky bullshit way too expensive
"Check this sick touchpad we put in the middle of our controller, and this cool light on the back drains the battery like crazy and can't be turned off." -- greatest controller ever
If Nintendo shifted their button placement by ten degrees it would be labelled a gimmick.
