The PS3 sold terribly for a while for many reasons.
The 360 didn't sell that great to start with either due to major supply shortages. This is why comparisons back to 360 are pretty worthless when the 360 was supply limited and the XB1 isn't at all.
XB1 had an awesome Nov/Dec, but has had an absolutely horrific 2014. Once you isolate and look only at 2014 numbers it's unbelievably bad.
And EVERY person who compares XB1 to PS3 needs to remember that the PS3 came back ONLY due to international support. At best it was an also-ran loser in the USA, while it surged ahead to become dominant in Europe/Asia. Any guesses as to what the odds of XB1 being dominant in Europe/Asia are? If there was a number less than zero, it would fit.
XB1 will be a disaster even if it can match PS4 in US/UK. And that's incredibly unlikely.
Don't take my word for it, just wait for June NPD. It will read :
PS4 ~185k
XB1 ~130kish
And then it will fall back again around the 100k mark for July/August. It will pick up closer to the holidays, but nowhere near what PS4 will. Bank on it.
