Mario Kart 8 didn't save Wii U because there aren't as many Mario fans as you think , Gamecube and Nintendo 64 Area showed this.
Personally I bought Wii U , but if i didn't wait for Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, Xenoblade and Fatal Frame, the classic Nintendo IPs weren't enough for me.
