By the gods, man! Alleycat is one of the first games I ever played and one of my favorite games ever! What's wrong with the controls, exactly? I never had a problem with them, not even when I was very little. It can get frustrating and difficult on later levels, though.

"Here, kitty, kitty, kitty..." XD

It was far from the first game I ever played. I hated the jump controls, imprecise hit detection and annoying broom. There was much better around to play.
For example Lazy Jones, same type of game basically. I still have that tune stuck in my head.

Well, haven't played Lazy Jones, but it does not look like the superior game to me.

You have no control over the jump in Alleycat, but that does not mean you can't learn how to jump properly. Hit detection was generally good, though at the final stage it can seem like you get hit constantly if you're not careful or get caught under the barrage of cupid arrows. A second of invincibility there would have broken the stage since getting hit doesn't drain health. The broom is the best thing about the game, it's awesomely programmed for the time.

One of the better examples of good controls in the game is when you steal milk from sleeping dogs. You don't have to be positioned exactly at the bowl, by pressing the action button the cat will automatically go to the nearest bowl and start drinking.

Please, please give the game another chance. :)
