Maybe they are, but that's irrelevant. Successful people bumming a free ride on somebody else's created content isn't somehow less egregious just because they're already successful. If a popular band or singer covers an old song, you wouldn't say that they aren't stealing if they don't pay royalties to the original songwriter just because they'd still be popular even if they hadn't covered that particular song. And covering a song is a lot more transformative than simply playing a video game.
