Eh? Mario 3D World actually performed above expectations. Most people were not interested in it last E3, and it became one of the best Wii U games and a great Mario game in the end. Zelda U on the otherhand has much more hype than 3D world had, with the endless possibilities the larger scope and open world gameplay provide to the elements of exploration, the seamless nature of overworld/dungeon dynamics, the more natural AI, and what seem to be semi-destructible environments, and an overall better Action-Adventure experience that truly takes advantage of the greater resources that are available, so much more than a realistic/naturalistic style would have allowed it. If people are underwhelmed with the final product it will be likely because Nintendo didn't pull it off very well (unlikely), or that the game was just way overhyped (see: Twilight Princess.)
