It's pretty different than something like Skylanders or Capcom's bullshit because they're not locking characters out of games (yet). That they're planned to work across different games also makes it more additive - these are/will be features that they wouldn't bother with if not for Amiibo. So while it doesn't appeal to me in the slightest, it doesn't exactly seem egregious, either. Just gimmicky.
Besides, at least you get a nice looking figurine for your money rather than a digital key to access content that was already there!
