From what I understand, they could have continued paying Gamespy to run the servers, but chose not to. This isn't a slam against Nintendo by the way: the servers were up and running for about a decade, and the last new game that used those servers was released, what, three or four years ago? But this statement isn't completely accurate.


They would have had to make new server agreements with Glu moble. From what I heard though is Glu jacks up server prices to 10 times what Gamespy offered their services for. A lot of companies just jumped ship cause why would they pay more than what they paid before for the same services
