| snowdog said: Have you actually played Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8..? Really doesn't sound like it. The PS3 and 360 couldn't possibly reproduce the likes of them without downgrades in poly count for the models, disabling v-synch and downgrading the lighting. Both Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 are deceptively throwing around A LOT of polys. Each playable character model is high poly, the enemy models/karts are high poly models, the large enemies and large animated models are all high poly and the Double Cherry power up throws in even more polys into the mix. Just have a look at how damned ROUND everything is. The models in Mario Kart 8 aren't as impressive as the ones in Super Mario 3D World for obvious reasons but there's still a VERY impressive amount of polys being thrown around all the same. You really need to get this nonsense that the Wii U has '7th gen' tech out of your head, the GPU and CPU are brand new custom made chips. Latte has a DX11-equivalent feature set for starters and Espresso isn't, contrary to popular belief, 3 x Broadways duct-taped together. Like I've already said, what we've seen from Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Xenoblade Chronicles X and Bayonetta 2 shouldn't be possible. There's A LOT more going on under the hood that we're completely unaware of. Project CARS is going to be the litmus test, it's the first third party title for the Wii U where an equal amount of effort has gone into it compared to other versions. It isn't going to look as good as the other versions but it isn't going to look a generation apart from them either. |
You're not listening. The textures don't need to be that good. That's why pretty much everything else can outperform what we saw on PS3 and X360. Anyway, they are equivalent to Wii U. See for example WipEout HD, made 6 years ago for the PS3 and it runs 1080p @ 60 fps. Not so many polygons as Mario Kart 8 but, again, not so cartoonish either (so the textures have more quality). Had the game been cartoonish (more like F-Zero) and you would see many more polygons.
Maybe PS3/X360 couldn't reproduce Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 without downgrading something. But that's not because they are weaker. It's because those games were designed for the Wii U. I bet Wii U couldn't run Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3 precisely as they are on the PS3 either. They were designed for a powerful 8-core processor and they squeezed it like few games did. The WiiU's "brand new custom made" CPU and GPU couldn't simply do the work. So that proves nothing.
X360, PS3 and WiiU are sisters. They are all different but somehow equivalent. They have pros and cons, they have different architectures, they have their own specialties (games that the others can't run), but they are like sisters. PS4 and XOne are the big daddies. It's a totally different league (it's a generation ahead).
In regards to Project CARS, if it happens like you say, it won't be because WiiU is not a generation behind. It will be like Assassin's Creed IV or COD Ghosts, where the PS3/X360 versions are not much worse than the PS4/XOne versions.
