The problem I see is that only the small number of people that already bought a Wii-U like the small selection of games. But it should be Nintendo's top priority to attract new people like the 200 million Wii / PS3 / 360 users to the system. Nintendo's own games are just not enough because they are mostly for kids only, I did not have fun with a Link between Words and Mario 3D Land because I always felt that I am way to old to play these games.

I will buy a Wii-U (which is hopefully cheaper and comes with a smaller or without a tablet) in 2015 for Zelda and Xenoblade and those are the only games I am currently interested in. But not many people will buy a system just to play two games. I do not care about Smash Brothers, Hyrule Warrios, Splatoon and Bayonetta at all, these are just not the kind of games I like playing. The Wii-U does not offer enough variety of games and only 3rd party developers can supply this variety.
