One thing I enjoyed doing in melee when I was just playing by myself was to play against 3 other comps, usually Free For Alls, and rotate the losing character out. It was simple fun, and a way to practice.
In Brawl, this isn't really fun anymore. Why? The AI has changed how it views you and computers in a FFA. In melee all characters were treated with equal priority. A level 9 computer would just jump in and fight. In Brawl however, it's more like a team game with friendly fire turned on. Computers don't really care about fighting other computers, they target you, and if they hurt each other in the process oh well. So often times in a stock match against 3 other level 9 computers I will get gang banged, elimanated and then it takes like 5 minutes for the comps to finish each other because they just won't fight. They will walk around, grab some items, maybe throw one at somebody. If they get too close to each other they might try to attack. Oddly enough though, if you make a 1v1 with only comps, no humans, they will actually attack each other like normal.
Right now, to test this and make sure I'm not just imagining it, I'm doing a 3 person FFA. I'm olimar vs DK and Peach (comps). I've done nothing but run, and try to avoid them in this 1 life stock match on Spear Pillar. They are at 0% and 20% damage respectively, I'm at 145%. They are just chasing me, and if they get too close to each other take a quick pot shot (which they will almost always dodge or block) and then return to chasing me. This has been going on for 3 minutes. They don't even care about each other. Peach got a smash ball, put us both to sleep and guess who she ran over to attack. She smash attacked me, and then started eating peaches, didn't even care about DK.
I greatly prefer the old AI which actually made it a Free For All, rather than a humans vs comps with friendly fire turned on.
