Honestly, at this point, they might as well use the Wii U as a device to debut new properties. I know most corporations don't like passing up short-terms sales but, really, the potential of the Wii U doesn't have a high cap. Introduce new IP now and they'll have more of a name the next time around, hopefully on a console with a higher sales rate.
I was talking to a blueberry farmer the other day who was trying to decide if he should pull all his bushes up after harvest and plant new ones or not. Doing so would give him a much better harvest next year but it would mean essentially no profit this year. I think now is the time for Nintendo to plant new bushes.
