They will NEVER be on par.  The PS4 version will always look better even if they are both 1080p.  It is just flat WAY stronger.

as a ps4 only owner i hope so, but recent reports have the xb1 at least up to 1080p which is good news to potential next gen owners who are still undecided

1080p is just a number for marketing.  It is better than 720p, but if you put the same game in 1080p on both the X1 and PS4, the PS4 will have a ton more room for added detail and it will show.
