...Yeh they do need third parties. It is not wise to do all the heavy lifting by themselves. The "Me VS the whole world" attitude is not a wise move.
With this said, the support they need differs from Sony and microsoft. It is known that multiplats don't sell well on nintendo home consoles, and it is also has been shown multiplats do not drive hardware sales. Lose - Lose situation. Nintendo recognizes this, and hence why they have opted with a different strategy, that is partnerships with publisher eg Sega, Tecmo, Atlus and scooping up projects like bayonetta and devils third. Iwata should consider some western partnerships like a Nintendo themed Skylanders and Infinity game, and more lego city undercover game deals.
