I doubt it was a female, no tits and a very masculine face. They had the same blue tunic Link always wears. If it's not link then it probably takes place in one of the universes where link is defeated and dies and the person is likely their brother who takes up the mantle to restore balance. It could be zelda but they in no way look feminine.
