Like tons of aspects of daily life becoming outrageously dependent on internet capabilities, it is hitting the video game industry just as heavily. Why bother finishing a game when consumers have shown they will provide you full retail price months in advance, and hope you are able to day 1 or later patch and fix it. Tons of people will even pay you more up to double retail price for things like season passes and premium memberships, without ever even playing your game.
