Perhaps in the past, the line between them is arbitrary nowadays. In the last decade the console game market and the PC game market grew together.
- most games are developed for consoles and PCs together
- mainstream PC cases got smaller and quieter and aren't that intrusive placed in the living room
- PCs support HDMI and can be connected to TVs without a hassle
- most PC games support gamepad controls
- the hardware components in modern consoles are mass produced PC components
- modern consoles are slimmed-down PCs with proprietary OS and ecosystems... they inherited most features (multimedia, online multiplayer, patches, expansion packs, HDDs, voice chats, digital distribution...) and annoyances (boot times, in-game loading times, insufficiently tested games) of the PC market.
