Real fans are getting both.

So after all that, I'm curious to hear your quantitative sales predictions.

But what if I don't care about the 3DS version?

Don't worry. He's just trying to turn around what I said, to make it seem as if what he says is actually true.

The fact of the matter is, most Smash fans ARE far more enthusiastic/exicted about the Wii U version, and it IS the "real" version that people are hyped about. The 3DS version is a bad graphiced, ill-conceived after-thought, period. There is nothing WRONG with the concept of a portable Smash Bros. game. However, there IS something wrong with this "let's put the 'same game' on both systems" concept. The smartest thing Nintendo possibly could have done, would have been to release the Wii U game, on it's own, as the typcial stand-alone exclusive, thereby getting THE most game sales and Wii U console sales they could out of the release, and then LATER, as in 2015 or beyond, make a completely unrelated, separate 3DS Smash Bros. game that is it's own entity, thereby also gleaning THE most possible game and system sales out of that launch as well. That scenario would be a win/win for both consoles, and for all fans.

I'm sorry, but that is the most fiscally and critically practical way to look at this. There simply isn't a good enough argument against it, because it just makes the most business sense, and the most sense for fans.

Even if some people DO want/intend on buying both versions, it's not sound to expect that most people are going to be able to afford that option, so for many, it will literally come down to one or the other. And that just isn't smart business. Nor is it the best for the fans, since because of the very existence of the 3DS version, the Wii U version might well suffer from potential cut content or lesser content, because of Sakurai's odd fixation with wanting the two versions to have some kind of "parity". That in and of itself also just isn't practical, since by all rights, considering the far more powerful hardware and far bigger disc capacity, the Wii U version should have a hell of a lot more content in-game than the sub-par portable version. That is simply how it should work out, from a rational perspective. The 3DS has weaker, limited hardware, a small screen (even if you consider the XL), etc.

Regardless, the 3DS version exists, and chances are it COULD very well wind up having higher sales figures at the end of the day, than the Wii U version. And again, if that's the case, that is just Nintendo being incredibly short-sighted and stupid in this instance. I do think the Wii U version will sell just fine, and I do believe that most Smash fans are anticipating that version far moreso than the other. But still, as previously stated, the 3DS is doing fine in sales, it's a successful system, that has plenty of games, and plenty more on the way. Wii U does not have that success, and desperately needs it. The best way to spark that kind of success, is with "must have" exclusives, and Smash Bros. is one of those types of games that people "must have". But if they're providing another version of that game, on a system that many people might already own, then by simply providing the circumstances in which they MIGHT be undermining the benefits of this game to their Wii U console, again....that's just not smart business.
