Casual games are great because they're entire experience comes from the game play, you don't need the flashy shebang and what not. I can easily spend 5 hours on rock band and not once even think about a story or purpose :P The same can't be said about Bioshock :x

In your case I'd say a game like Monkeyball can be considered hardcore up until you get everything, in which case the game becomes what it was meant to be. A casual experience. You can down an infinite amount of hours on a casual game and it never changes. That's it's point. You play the mechanics not the plot.

That's some of the most flawed logic I've ever saw. Now some games are "hardcore", but when you achieve total completion it becomes casual? Storylines generally make something "hardcore"? Gameplay is more associated with casual games?

 

How is that flawed o.O? I know some people who play rock band to unlock every article of clothing. Is rock band by any means a "hardcore" game? Hell no! But my friend is going out of his way to see everything and unlock everything that game has to offer. I never said Monkeball was considered hardcore by any means, but if you make it your goal to see and master everything in it you could consider yourself a hardcore gamer. Some people like myself could simply care less. I play rock band to play the drums, not to play dress up lol. When it comes to Rock band, I'm VERY casual. However once you've unlocked EVERYTHING, what else is there? Are you going to delete the file to do it again? Or are you going to leave all of that unlocked so you can play it freely without commitment? If your answer lies in the first statement your making the game quite hardcore ;) (like an adventure game or RPG), or if you choose the latter, it's quite casual I'd say >_>;
