But that Sony left the studio out to die surely indicates that they don't have much in the way of confidence in that IP.

Or no confidence in the developer maybe? Doesn't that make more sense? The IP has potential, but clearly it was in the wrong hands. Wasn't it rumored to be placed with an actual Sony studio but then it was shifted to SuperBot? If that is true then that's quite telling - of a lot.
