Hahahahaha..... I know how it must have sounded to you... thats why I started off with "as funny as it may sound". But there is sound logic to it. CD audio, was just coming into its own around when the PSX released. The poeple that go out and buy music CDs aren't the 6-13yr olds that nintendo typically caters to. Nope, its the 16-23yr olds. At the time, the PSX was one of the cheapest ways to get a CD player. Hell, at that time a Discman cost almost as much as a PSX. Then with the PS2, it was not only the cheapest DVD player, it was also introduced at a time when DVDs were trying to find its feet. This is why the PS brand is usually refferred to as the trojan horse of the tech industry. Anything you put in a PS, becomes an industry standard. They did it again with blu-ray. So you see, Cd and DVD playback actually held a looot of sway to why some ppl chose one system over the other. I for one know that the first time i watched the matrix dvd it was on a PS2. Lets not forget, N64, no discs, GC smaller discs so no movie playback. Nintendo not supporting those formats would have been the equivalent today to nintendo not only making a console with an SD card slot instead of a disc drive but also not supporting HD or internet access. Now who do you think cares about stuff like that? 7yr olds? I strongly doubt it. Its all about reading in between the lines my friend. (not so dumb when you give something a little extra thought huh?) EDIT: I just checked your profile cause I had a fleeting suspicion. I don't think you were actually born around the time the PSX happened, at the time i think I was just about to hit my teens. My older brother got the PSX, I was pissed cause i was waiting for nintendos next console. So you were definitely still pretty young around the time of the PS2 too. You shouldn't talk about things you know nothing about bro. |
...
I was born in 1992. And even if i wasn't born when PSX released, I can get more than enough info on it to talk about it, 'bro.'
Anyways, you are really grasping with trying to show PSx as mature and N64 as not.
You named games like Wipeout, Gran Turismo, Resident Evil, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story, FF7 and Metal Gear Solid as games that made PSx mature. Then when Nova said that N64 had those kind of games too, you implied that wasn't really the case because MK didn't have blood...
N64 had games like Conker's Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark, Resident Evil 2, shadow man, Nightmare Creatures, Biofreaks.
N64 had tons of racing games, including Wipeout which you named as "mature."
So yeah, like the other poster said, N64 had those kind of games too.
