Modern Ludwig artwork shows him with a blue shell, but the spikes don't resemble the Spiny Blue shell's spikes. Plus, he had a green shell back in Super Mario World, which was the last game he was in before they first created the Blue Shell in MK64, so it couldn't have originally come from any of them.
