Seeing as these charts include handhelds, is anyone even remotely surprised by these numbers? Were it not for the sudden huge rise and then "fall" of handheld gaming the charts would look a lot more consistent.

Exactly.  Some may try to spin this into some kind of DOMZ!, but it isn't.  The only one who should be concerned, if we are looking at combined sales, is MS.  Overall shipments after support for the 360 is dropped are going to look horrid.  For Nintendo, this just shows the 3DS is doing okay, but peaked early, while the Wii U isn't doing so great.  The PS3 has dropped quite a bit, but that's normal for how long gen 7 lasted.  And the Vita is doing so great outside of Japan.  Both of which don't change that the PS4 is doing great and will continue to.

Basically, what we already knew, just in chart form.

Seriously?

Vita doing well outside of Japan? What?

The bolded/underlined is very true.  The OP is focusing on combined shipments of each company.  Once the 360 is dropped, and the One is on its own, those numbers will look horrible.  And you did catch a typo.  I meant isn't.  I'll fix that, now.
