Because Vita isn't the money maker of SCE, the home consoles are, PSP was essentially extra money, a feat unable to be achieved by vita, which doesn't affect sony.
Nintendo are only a game company, so if their home console fails, nintendo CAN fail, and with handheld apparently dying, nintendo need to secure Wii U/nintendo home consoles future
