Valve extend the life of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's Operation Phoenix
CommentValve are working on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s next operation, which you can expect will be as eventful as Diretide, if not quite as lucrative as The International prize pool. But they’re not done, so in the meantime they’ve allowed Operation Phoenix to be reborn in a plume of flame and upgradeable coins.
Minecraft players no longer have to download Realms updates they're not using
CommentMinecraft Realms is a good idea: a family-focused subscription service that bypasses the fiddly router business involved in playing Notch’s opus online. It’s going to make Mojang more millions - but plenty of us PC types have complained that it’s taking preference over conventional Minecraft updates and clogging our launchers with needless updates.
Well, this is for us. Mojang have published a pre-release version of Minecraft 1.7.10 which shifts all Realms-related modules into a separate library - preventing future updates to the service from disrupting play.
Elder Scrolls Online devs rework its endgame, "want it to be more exciting to get to level 50"
CommentThe Zenimax team are feeling a little downtrodden. Our Nick’s Elder Scrolls Online review probably didn’t help. But they’re living with it.
“I know sometimes there is as much criticism as there is praise out there in internet-land for the game,” they write. “But that shows a passionate fan base that cares about the game, which is very important to acknowledge.”
Acknowledge, and address. Zenimax plan to start with the game’s Veteran system - and provide more compelling things to do in Tamriel past level 50.

“I’m given pause not by internal criticism from frustrated backers who really just want to get into space,” he wrote, “but by sensationalistic headlines that imply we’re not working hard or that the game is some sort of scam.”
Play the boxset of Guild Wars 2's Living World Season 2 via July's journal feature
CommentAt some point over the last year of fortnightly “endless storyline” updates, Guild Wars 2 became an interactive HBO show. And so it seems only right to bring “DVR-like” replay functionality to the game on the eve of its second Living World season.
