Sniper Elite 3: Everything We Know

Comment

Sat on top of a cliff trailing a German officer’s head through my rifle scope I waited for a plane to pass over, a sound loud enough to mask the sound of my shot. As the sound of the plane grew louder I changed my mind, dropped the scope south and fired.

The world slows down as it shows the end of my gun barrel flare and a rifle round flies out the end, quickly crossing the ground between me and the officer. The camera rotates round and I watch in x-ray as the round passes through my new target.

His testicles rupture in slow motion and I’m given an XP bonus for my keen aim.

Sniper Elite 3 aims to be the larger, more intelligent sequel to Sniper Elite V2 but it’s not abandoned what made the series popular.

Here’s Everything We Know.

Batman: Arkham Knight delayed into 2015. Batmobile video makes the wait harder

Comment

And just when you thought the streets would be safe, Rocksteady have delayed the release of Batman: Arkham Knight from October till sometime in 2015. It’s like they want hordes of gamers out in the city starting trouble instead of staying safe at home playing their game.

To make the wait even harder to bear they’ve released a new trailer, one that breaks down the armaments of the Batmobile.

Life after launch: how Wildstar is handling server crunch and content updates

Comment

Today marks the official launch of Wildstar. Lots of you may have already played something of Carbine’s MMO, either as testers in the open beta or by preordering the game and securing yourself a couple of days head start.

Battlefield 4's netcode is the subject of today's community tested update

Comment

With all the Battlefield: Hardline talk, you might have forgotten that Battlefield 4 is still kicking about and still needs a bit of work. Today, DICE has rolled out an update to improve the game’s netcode, minimising the delay between input and action.

It’s the first update to be developed using the Community Test Environment, where premium members can test and provide feedback on developing features. “The number of changes possible in this update would be difficult to pull off without the continued support from our community, both through direct constructive feedback and telemetry data gathered on the CTE,” said DICE.

Murdered: Soul Suspect launches; can you solve the mystery of the haunted fedora?

Comment

Crikey, this Murdered: Soul Suspect launch trailer has a lot of cuts and flashes. But then, being dead probably isn’t very pleasant, and the trailer should reflect this. The spooky adventure game is out today in North America, with it launching on the 6th over here in Blighty.

If serial killers or chaps in silly hats is your cup of tea, take a gander at the trailer below.

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition almost as cheap as a punch in the gut after Mortal Kombat X reveal

Comment

Warner Bros. and NetherRealm announced Mortal Kombat X yesterday via the time honoured method of a CGI trailer that doesn’t explain what’s new. Mind you, watching Scorpion and Sub-Zero duke it out is always pretty entertaining if you like broken bones and fire-breathing skulls.

While you’re waiting for it to come out, it might be worth picking up Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition, not just because it’s excellent, but because it’s disgustingly cheap on Steam right now.

Goat Simulator 1.1 is live; patch notes should be put in a museum

Comment

Goat Simulator’s 1.1 update fell from the sky today. The most notable additions to the goat-based carnage sandbox are the brand spanking new area - accessible through the “custom game” section - and the ability to team up with another goat via the magic of split screen co-op.

There’s all sorts of trouble two young, virile goats can get up to in the big city. Coffee Stain Studios has kindly put together a trailer showcasing some of the relaxing activities on offer, from riding around on bikes with penguins to skateboarding and falling over.

Oh Hallelujah: Steam Now Lets You Preload To Any Folder

By Nathan Grayson on June 3rd, 2014 at 8:00 pm.

This may sound inconsequential, but I assure you: it is most certainly not anything of the sort. Previously if you wanted to preload a Steam game, you were stuck with good ol’ C:-fault, which was both a) an inconvenient pain and also b) dumb. We’ve been able to download Steam games to any hard drive for quite some time, so the restriction on preloading made zero sense. Now Valve’s fixed that – well, if you’re using Steam’s beta version, anyway.

Forging Frontiers: EVE’s Future

By Rich Stanton on June 3rd, 2014 at 5:00 pm.

If there was a subtext to the announcement that development on CCP’s World of Darkness was being stopped, it is surely that CCP has learned what it is good at – and that may not include vampires. “That was a big part of the keynote this year,” says CCP’s Torfil Oloffson. “And [CEO] Hilmar [Petursson] has said this a few times: CCP is now an EVE company. We will make other games and other products of course, but they will be set in the EVE universe.”

New Eden is a big place, of course. But just how big?

Making Headway: FranknJohn

By Ben Barrett on June 3rd, 2014 at 4:00 pm.

Hark, it’s a blast from the past. Upon reading Binding of Isaac-inspired roguelike FranknJohn‘s Kickstarter page I was worried the RPS quote present indicated we’d already written about the excellent looking dungeon splatterer. In a surprising turn for the best of both worlds we had, but it was many moons ago when Alec made appreciative noises after an encounter at Rezzed 2013. Since then devs bitSmith Games have released their previously mobile-only title, Ku: Shroud of the Morrigan, onto PC and have been hard at work improving FranknJohn. Promising hundreds of customisable heads for their terrifying monster protagonist, who detaches his for use as a weapon, they’ve set themselves a hefty task and are after £30,000 to finish the job. Pitch vid below if your neck stretches far enough.

Why Did Nobody Play The Floor Is Jelly?

By Nathan Grayson on June 3rd, 2014 at 12:00 pm.

Hey you! Yeah, you. The one with the facial expression that says, “I think I have a relatively full and complete understanding of my world’s physical properties, including the basic solid nature of the ground beneath my feet.” YOU ARE WRONG. The Floor Is Jelly. Other things are jelly too. Trees, lamps, houses, your sense of morality – all of that. Really though, it’s not so bad once you get used to it. It’s pretty charming, even. The Floor Is Jelly is now on Steam, so I’ve made a quick video to show you why it’s a vibrant, soothing dive off the deep end that didn’t get near enough attention when it first came out earlier this year. Watch me bounce (and bounce and bounce and bounce) below.

Groovy: Rhythmic Platformer Inside My Radio Announced

By Alice O'Connor on June 3rd, 2014 at 11:00 am.

Ever since learning from Björk that televisions are like little cities taking care of electrons, I’ve fancied wandering around mine’s streets. Not quite there, but perhaps close enough, is Inside My Radio. Announced yesterday, it’s a rhythmic platformer set inside a broken booming box, where your little radio-headed chap needs to jump and dash and slam in time with the beat of the soundtrack. No wonder the electrons need so much supervision and support, if that’s the kind of nonsense they get up to.

Grimrock Tidings: Legend Of Grimrock 2 In Alpha

By Nathan Grayson on June 3rd, 2014 at 9:00 am.

Some games make massive developmental strides loudly. STOMP STOMP STOMP WEEKLY TWITCH BROADCAST CLANG WOMP WOOZLE WE ADDED PARTICLE RENDERING. Others, however, do so in relative silence, announcing progress only once all systems are (mostly) go. Case in point: Legend of Grimrock 2. The first-person dungeon/island crawler sequel looks more and more marvelous every time we see it, and now it’s quite deep in the dungeons of alpha. The next step? Beta. And apparently that one’s not too far off.

Asus unveils slim, Core i7-powered GX500 gaming laptop with 4K display

Andy Chalk at 07:29 on 04 June 2014

My own laptop is several years old, weighs a little more than a cinder block and gives me enough time during boot-up to make a sandwich and watch a Barney Miller rerun. I am, therefore, perhaps a little more impressed by the new Asus GX500 gaming notebook revealed today at Computex 2014 than others might be. It packs a Core i7 CPU—and more importantly, a 4K display—into a laptop package less than two centimeters thick.

Morrowind getting an engine overhaul through OpenMW

Patrick Carlson at 05:30 on 04 June 2014

A new game engine could mean an even longer life for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. The engine-replacement project—known as OpenMW—isn't complete yet, but the group of developers working to modernize the now-classic 2002 RPG is nearing the finish line, according to a new update video from the team.

Starcraft 2 becomes a turn-based RPG with new mod Rogue Star

Phil Savage at 04:02 on 04 June 2014

The thing that stops me from being good at Starcraft 2 is I can only manage a few minutes of furious finger work. Luckily, there's now hope for those of us without the stamina to sustain our armies: Rogue Star, a Starcraft 2 Arcade mod that transforms the game into a turn-based RPG. Take that, pro-gamers—you could be spending whole, luxurious minutes before activating your blink attacks.
