What I hope they learn:
1. More balancing and skill orientated gameplay. I have my doubt to whether Mario Kart 8 is less random than other recent Mario Karts. If you're good at Mario Kart you'd almost always win and that's true of all of them. That said many people do seem to think this one's fairer and that's a message that's being positively received.
2. More Luigi! He quirky personality was bound to hit a meme or two eventually.
3. More local multiplayer. It's something that only nintendo prioritises. You don''t really get it from tablets or that much from rival consoles.
4. More free games. I think this was a great excuse for people who were on the fence to take the plunge. Free games also mean people play the console more. Making the console a bigger and more positive part of someones life and could (And this is completely theoretical and not base off any empirical evidence) increase game sales in the long term.
What I hope they don't learn:
1. Stick Mario in the title of every game they make.
2. Focus on incremental updates to past big games.
3. Nobody cares that much about PVP battles.
4. Everyone raves about how great it looks... Graphic > gameplay for customers.
