Ni no Kuni? I don't know what kind of budget they were working with, but I doubt that Studio Ghibli and Joe Hisaishi came cheaply for Level 5.

Fair play, that does come very close, though you can only control 1 character, which isn't what I call old-fashioned. But it's probably the closest I reckon

I take it you meant a strictly turn-based RPG a la Dragon Quest or FF I to X?
