Lifespan means how long it's on the market. So if Wii-U would be produced for another four years after it's successor is released, it would have a 8 year life span.

If it's supported while it's successor is out, it'll only be for like a year. They aren't wasting their money supporting a failed console.

If Nintendo bring out new console in 2016 then it will lack game library (Nintendo can make 5 games only for a year at max and user still buy only for thier games only) compared to others and it will only have power close to PS4 which we can easiy say based on Nintendo past mostly and also considering they want low power and costing less console. Also i doubt about third party to support that new console unless its similar architecture to PS4/Xbone which i doubt it. So, i think Nintendo is done with Home console and they should better making a portable (or) console with new kind of gimmick with QOL like Wii did as they can't compete with hardcore gamers and third party of PS4/Xbox one.
