I've thought something similar to this before but a spin-off free-to-play MMO franchise exclusively for the Wii U gamepad. They could create a free-view single mission adventure game on gaming websites, forums, and even extended to Apple Store and Google Play Store as an app.
Pikmin franchise could be a good start for a candidate.
Although, my idea doesn't necessarily have to end on real-time strategy.
