Crap I just messed up. I started the download immediately after it came on the uk eshop and straight away registered. Then wondering how to claim I found this:
Register the Club Nintendo PIN code for Mario Kart 8 in www.club-nintendo.com between 10:00 (UK time) on May 30th 2014 and 23:59 (UK time) on July 31st 2014.
Because I didn't wait till 10:00 I missed out on nsmbu :(
It says nothing about waiting till 10:00 on any of the ads for it.
