The X1 is certainly, in general, the more difficult to work with (primarily due to the eSRAM at present), but the PS4 was built with a much bigger focus on GPGPU than the X1. It would be more accurate to say that the PS4 is easier to work with in the general sense, but more difficult to "max out". As Cerny has said, it will probably be in the PS4's 3rd or 4th year that we really see the GPGPU fully utilized for stuff like physics, simulation, ray casting etc. Should be cool :D |
3rd or 4th year sounds about right, that's how it is for most consoles. I guess time will tell as far as the gap goes.
