I would argue that neither Wii U or X1 failed due to marketing.  Wii U because they hardly market it and X1 because they spend a ton on it and it's still not moving consoles.

I had opinions before vgchartz.  Very few of those opinions were about what videogame related hardware or software would sell before I started coming here.  

Just like the X1 even if they spent a ton of money marketing the Wii U there would be no discernable difference because it's not an appealing product.  Marketing isn't some silver bullet that fixes everything.
