You don't lose 500GB if you install something bigger than 500GB. If I install a 2TB drive I get an extra 1.5TB. Yes I can't use the drive they gave me but who cares it's 500GB. I'd much rather have this setup then some external drive sitting on my TV stand that would be annoying.

It's annoying for a couple of reasons. It's extra mess I don't want to have around I like keeping my media center clean. More power cables because if I were to get an external drive I might as well go 3TB+. Would probably have to get an extra surge protector just to plug it in honestly.

I personally wouldn't find it annoying at all, though I am used to working around several external drives. I think the pros totally outweigh the added clutter if you ask me.
