the main problem with the average low scores is that games that one or two people have rated tend to float to the top until they have the "anti-fanboy" ratings thrown at them. The top 10 is usually full of crappy titles with 9 and 10 ratings.
perhaps only games with 5 or more ratings should appear in the top 30.
The other major problem is less popular games (trauma center, advance wars, grandia II, etc.) are less likely to have enough voters to offset people purposely voting it down. This makes the lesser known titles drop down the list and only the big popular titles at the top.
I do agree that we shouldn't be using metacritic's data.
