Sounds like threads in the past about PS3 and later PS Vita. There will be no magic return, and at this point in life the 3DS already had the turn in sales momentum, the WiiU is way past that point now.

But the DS had not.  While DS never did as poorly as Wii U, it was relatively much, much poorer in its first two years of life.  Sales grew exponentially.

Hmm, you'Re right on DS. Hard to analyze what the reason was for DS. Doubtful it will be possible to do the same for WiiU. But I would be happy about a surprise like that. But until I see signs of such a development I will stay doubtful.

There were lots of reasons for the poor DS start (relative to later years).  It was an odd console, and PSP seemed like the item to have.  The Playstation brand, the sleeker look, greater processing power.  DS was clunky and weird with 2 screens.  But then Nintendo gave it a redesign to look much more trendy, released NSMB - the first 2D Mario in years - and unique new IPs such as Nintendogs and Brain Age that roped in casual gamers like never before.  These moves combined were amazing, and are what Wii U needs.
