Stoic told backers that Banner Saga would come to Steam “even though we didn’t have any guarantee of that”
CommentThe Banner Saga was one of the top 10 best-selling games on Steam yesterday, thanks to a mid-week sale that reduced it to just over a tenner. In fact, since the release of its single player campaign in January, it’s done “really, really well”.
But when its indie trio left BioWare to start on their sobering viking RPG, in the days before Greenlight, they didn’t know they’d even make it onto Valve’s impassive grey storefront.
“When we went on Kickstarter though, we said that in our Kickstarter pitch that we were going to be on Steam even though we didn’t have any guarantee of that,” Stoic artist Arnie Jorgensen told PCGamesN. “When we were successful on Kickstarter, we could go to Steam and say, ‘Hey, we said we were going to be on Steam on Kickstarter and we have all this money – do you guys want to drop the ball or do you want us on Steam?’”
Lucas Pope follows Papers, Please with Return of the Obra Dinn
Comment“‘Obra’ is pronounced like ‘Cobra’ without the C,” writes Lucas Pope, creator of Papers, Please. He’s detailing his new game, a first-person mystery set in 1808. You play an insurance adjustor for the East India Company and it’s on you to solve the mystery of the Obra Dinn, which “set out from London for the Orient with over 200 tons of trade goods” and wasn’t seen for six years. It’s just pulled into port and there’s not a soul on board.
We’re a long way from Arstotzka.
