What: Valve's Dota 2 International prize pool has secret stretch rewards
Comments2When Valve announced a new round of International prize pool stretch goals two days ago*, there was a yawning gap between the remarkable $6 million marker we’d just crossed and the Daily Hero Challenge at $6,800,000.
Money has continued to tumble into the pot steadily since, however - and just now overturned a “hidden stretch goal”. The first of many?
Obsidian's Sawyer prays for mod support in Fallout 4: "The community is amazing"
Comments3John Sawyer joined Black Isle too late to work on the original Fallout games - but became series custodian for 18 months during the development of New Vegas at Obsidian.
As such, he has some pretty strong opinions about the future of the series with Bethesda, and in particular about modding - which he calls “one of the greatest things about [Bethesda’s] technology”.
Steam's cut-price culture means most won't pay $25 for The Banner Saga - but devs call sales a "powerful thing"
Comments7The Banner Saga was one of the top 10 best-selling games on Steam yesterday. The indie RPG did away with 40% of its asking price for its second mid-week sale since release in January, and seems to have done rather well out of it.
“It’s like a cultural thing now on Steam,” Stoic programmer John Watson told PCGamesN. “Where unless it’s a game that you’re really looking forward to and you’ve got to get it right now or you have some other motivation - you want to play with friends - most people are very savvy and they just say ‘Wishlisted’ and then in a month or two, it’ll go on sale.”
Fill robots, dinosaurs and demons with bullets in the Hazard Ops beta, starting May 28th
CommentHave you signed up for the closed beta of Infernum’s absolutely ridiculous third-person shooter, Hazard Ops? If the answer to that query is now, then I must wonder if you’re mummy, dinosaur, evil robot, demon, zombie and zombie dog sympathiser.
For everyone else who knows that the best kind of undead, mechanbical or demonic beastie is one riddled with bullets, there’s some good news. Hazard Ops’ closed beta is kicking off very soon. The European beta will begin on May 28th, that’s next Wednesday. Get prepared.
What you see is what you get: No modding support for Evolve
Comments1Turtle Rock understands the impact modders can have on the longevity and depth of a game. Left 4 Dead, as wonderful as it was at launch, only got better as the community started to tinker and add to it.
Unfortunately, the studio’s latest game, Evolve, will not launch with any kind of mod support, Turtle Rock co-found Phil Robb told RPS. There are no plans for it at all right now or before launch.
MapleStory explores the third dimension in MapleStory 2
CommentIt only took me an hour, six years ago, to figure out that MapleStory was not for me. But it certainly floats a lot of boats, as it boasts pretty huge user numbers. While it’s evolved over the years, adding PvP and other MMO mainstays, the 2D side-scrolling MMO is about to make way for its successor, MapleStory 2.
Get a first look below.
The Elder Scrolls Online's first Adventure Zone, Craglorn, has been opened up to the veteran masses
CommentThe Elder Scrolls Online’s first major piece of post-launch content is now live. Veteran adventurers can now explore the new region of Craglorn - the first Adventure Zone - where they can wander around new delves (hopefully finding fewer players camping spawns), participate in a new storyline and dabble in the 12-player trials.
While ZeniMax’s focus for the rickety MMO has been end game content, there’s also been a number of bug fixes and tweaks across the board.
The height of fashion: Rust's mud-covered groins and tire armour
Comments1Things have been getting strange in the Rust “reboot” version. That’s the experimental version where all the updates are being tested rather than the boring default one. Weapons models, crafting, terrain, all of these things are being fiddled around with. But none of that’s important.
What is important is that there’s a glorious future ahead of us where Rust is populated with people who have lathered their cock and balls with mud. Why, you ask? Well, why not.
Ex-Wing: Star Wars Attack Squadrons canned
Comments2Star Wars Attack Squadron, the F2P multiplayer space shooter being developed by Area 52, has been the victim of a blast from the Death Star, and is no more.
The developer made the abrupt announcement on the Attack Squadrons site earlier today. “We want to thank all of the fans who participated in the closed beta of Star Wars: Attack Squadrons,” Area 52 said. “After much consideration, we have decided to cease development so that we can focus on other Star Wars game experiences. We truly appreciate the time you spent engaging in the beta.”
Rematch: Capture the Flag returning to Titanfall matchmaking
CommentLast week, Respawn removed the Capture the Flag mode from the matchmaking list in Titanfall. The developer stated that not enough players were queueing for the mode, and this led to extremely long waits in matchmaking.
“The reality is that less than 1% of the player base was even trying to play CTF, let alone actually able to get in to a game,” said Respawn. “With that few players attempting to connect, our matchmaking would just sit there, spinning forever, waiting to find a game to play.“
After some improvements to the matchmaking system, however, it’s returning.
