Honestly, $250 was the Wii U's $170. 3DS was majorly jumpstarted by such a drastic price drop. $50 is not a drastic price drop. At $250, the Wii U would have hit that sweet price point where even if you hated the gamepad, $250 is cheap enough to impulse buy. That, along with the 3DS's steady stream of AAA hits month after month soon after are what catapulted the 3DS so high. The nail in the coffin was the immensely popular 3DS XL.
Now, if the Wii U gets another $50 price cut, the impact will be far less significant.
