I was honestly not expecting Ike to return. I just assumed that the most recent Fire Emblem Lord (Chrom) would replace him. I wonder if Awakening will get a non-Lord character to represent it then, since three sword users would be a bit overkill. LETS GO THARJA! 
But I love that Ike grew up from Brawl (Path of Radiance age) to 4 (Radiant Dawn). Really great touch and really shows the fact that he's a character that'll hurt you big time if you let him hit you with Ragnell. Awesome. ^_^
